Registration fee and confirmation

Round 1 entry fee50 USD

This is the competition’s Round 1 entry fee; preparation or tutoring services are separate. The registration fee is non-refundable, including duplicate payments.

Prepare both a personal, non-school email address and a school email address. Check the legal name, date of birth, phone number, school details and address, and applicable status option. The student and one parent or guardian complete the required electronic declarations. Registration, declarations and payment take place in the competition registration system; a consultation does not complete registration.

After submitting, retain registration confirmation and payment records, and check that the personal email account receives messages. If confirmation is missing, review the portal, inbox and existing payment records before attempting another payment.

What does each round require?

ROUND 1

40 multiple-choice questions · 60 minutes

Questions assess concepts, graphs and calculations. Awards include Distinguished Honor rolls, High Honor rolls and Honor rolls.

ROUND 2

Open responses · 120 minutes

Show the reasoning behind each response. The 2027 question count has not been announced. Awards include Gold, Silver, Bronze and Honorable Mention; five eligible students are selected for Team USA.

Start with the syllabus and samples

Map the syllabus across microeconomics, macroeconomics, and business and finance, then use official samples to become familiar with English wording and response formats. A first attempt can be untimed, but record your own reasoning.

After practice, distinguish gaps in concepts, reading errors, calculation mistakes and time pressure. Review the relevant topics before another attempt. The 25-question 2026 Round 1 paper is not a complete mock for the 40-question 2027 format. The USAEBO papers and samples hosted here do not include answer keys or worked solutions.

Once the registration details are checked, plan a first practice session. Use the compound-interest example and review checklist in our 2026 papers guide to move from collecting files to an independent attempt. The resources page remains the full file directory.
